bk_tale2 The Tale of DespereauxYour task is to keep a record of connections between the book and

  • your life
  • the world
  • other texts
This is an example of what you need to do. The part in bold is a quote. The rest is a reason why the book is connected to someone’s life.

Love is ridiculous. But love is also wonderful. And powerful. And

Despereaux’s love for the Princess Pea would prove, in time, to be all those

these things: powerful, wonderful, and ridiculous. (page 32) Some people

would say that it’s ridiculous how much I love my dog, but he gives

me what I don’t get from people: love with no arguments, just total

adoration. This is a powerful form of love.

hh_groovygreeks Horrible Histories TaskYour task for the Horrible Histories books is to create your own fictional (made up) Horrible Histories for Boroondara Park Primary School. You can make it into a little book complete with front cover and illustrations. The book should be written in the funny way that the Horrible Histories are written. You should imagine that you are writing about the school as if it is in the past. An example may be about what the students used the bottom oval for, or maybe some legends about the smell from the boys’ toilet.

myplace Homework for My Place With a partner you have to create My Place entries for the two missing years - 1998 and 2008. You will have to consider a number of things - how you link it with pages from the book (which characters, locations, events are still around in 1998 and 2008), what stays the same and what changes. You need to create text, a map and pictures. One entry for each person would be fair.

51flj4yyy4l_sl500_aa240_-150x150 Homework for Henry SugarThis is your homework for Henry Sugar.

The book is a collection of short stories written by Roald Dahl over many years. The longest story is the one about Henry Sugar and it’s also the name of the collection. But should it be?

Your task is to make a convincing case for your story to become the title for the collection. You will need to deliver a speech to your fellow Bookie Monsters as to the merits of your story (and maybe the problems with the other stories). The speech should go for around 3 minutes. It will be delivered next week.
