Here’s a list of some of the people we have discovered when we researched Australian history. We each need to choose 1 to focus on.They are -
- Albert Namatjira - Aboriginal artist
- Truganini - Last full blooded Tasmanian aborigine
- Peter Lalor - leader of the miners at the Eureka Stockade
- Ned Kelly - famous/infamous bushranger
- David Unaipon - Aboriginal inventor and on the $50 note
- Captain Thunderbolt - bushranger who escaped from prison
- Dame Edith Cowan - first female politician and woman’s right activist
- Sir Douglas Mawson - explorer of the Antarctic
- Dame Nellie Melba - famous opera singer
- Captain Cook - leader of the British expedition to Australia
- Burke and Wills - two leaders of the expedition through the middle of Australia
- Matthew Flinders - first person to sail all the way around Australia (and he took his cat with him too)
- John Simpson Kilpatrick - with his donkey helped wounded soldiers during the Great War
- Banjo Patterson - famous poet, writer and journalist
- William Buckley - escaped convict who spent 32 years living with the Aborigines near Melbourne
- John Batman - created Melbourne
- Caroline Chisholm - leader of female rights
- Sir John Monash - leader of Australian troops during the Great War
- Henry Parkes - called the “father” of Australian federation
- Edmund Barton - first prime minister

Mr. Hone I would like to do Caroline Chisholm because I don’t even know who she is and by you saying leader of female rights it seems she is an important person and someone worth studying. I am interested in her female rights and what she achieved.

Mr. Hone, can I please do Caroline Chisholm because I don’t know anything about her, I haven’t even heard of her. But it sounds interesting how she is the leader of female rights, and worth finding more about how she became the leader of female rights. I would like to do her because it sounds like an important part in history.
