“The Jap” pulled Joey out of the mine shaft because he was helpless and couldn’t get out himself, he was a kind Jap, because Joey was just a kid and he had hurt his shoulder and ankle.

But isn’t “The Jap” from a country at war with Australia? Why would they want to help someone from a country they want to invade?

I think that the Jap pulled Joey out of the mine shaft because he might have wanted to ask him questions about why he was in there or mabey he was just nice.

I think “the Jap” pulled Joey out of the mine shaft because he was trying to be kid and make Joey think that Japanese people are not bad but “th Jap” ran away so that if Joey reported to the Seargent he would not be caught and killed.

I think he pulled him out because he was a good ”jap” and saw that Joey was hurt and needed help.
