Coco’s from Neptune One day, I was bouncing on my trampoline when I felt a peculiar thump coming from a small hole in the ground. I looked down and saw two big pink eyes staring up at me. “Who’s there?” I asked, cautiously hopping off my trampoline and walking over to have a look. Looking closer into the hole, I saw a big, bright, pink, fluffy thing, about the size of a basketball, with small blue hands and feet and huge staring eyes, with a small mouth barely visible beneath all the fur. I jumped backwards when it said in a small voice like a human baby’s, “Coco”. Feeling scared, I ran inside and told my Mum. “Mum, there’s something in the backyard!” I said. “It’s probably just a bird,” she answered. “No, it’s underground,” I said. We looked out the window and saw the pink fluffy creature above the ground looking around curiously. “What is that thing?” My Mum asked. “Let’s go look,” I said. “No, it might be dangerous!” my Mum said quickly. “It doesn’t look dangerous,” I replied and before my Mum could stop me, I rushed outside. The pink, fluffy creature turned around when it saw me and said, “Coco.” I wonder what it is, I thought. “Me Fairy Floss, Flossy,” it said. “So you’re Flossy?” I said. Flossy nodded her head. When my Mum came out she said, “I’ve rung the Wild Animal Society, and they’re going to pick it up and run tests on it, then they’ll give it back.” Not long after she finished, a van turned up outside our house. We walked over to it and Flossy followed. Two people got out of the van and one talked to my Mum and the other picked up Flossy and put her in the van. My Mum came back over and said, “Flossy will be back in a few days.” A few days later the Wild Animal Society van turned up again and out came the same two people as before with one holding a cage. He handed Flossy over to us, while the other person said, “We’ve run tests on Flossy and it turns out that she is not from this world. Since you found her she is rightfully yours and I have also brought Flossy’s diet and care sheet. She is a new species, and would it be alright if you were on the news? It wouldn’t be all about you, though, most of it will be about Flossy,” the man asked. “That would be fine,” my mother said warmly. After the Wild Animal Society people had left, we took Flossy into our house. We looked at her dietary and care sheet. It said, “New found species, Coco. Diet: bugs, worms, fruits and vegetables, lollies, grass, weeds and plants. Basic care: Coco’s are very clean, friendly and playful animals. They always go to the toilet in the same place, and can be very easily toilet trained. They come in lots of different colours.” Just when we were reading this, there was another thump from our backyard and when we looked out the window, there were lots and lots and lots of Cocos in our backyard. That’s how, all over the world now, there are lots and lots of Cocos being kept as pets, all with different colours and personalities, and that’s where it all started, right in my backyard with Flossy.
